Open-Bio Workshop: EU Ecolabel for bio-based products

Time: Tuesday 24.05.2016, 10:00 - 16:30

Venue: Koordinationsstelle der Wissenschaften, Rue du Trône 98, B-1050 Brussels

Open-Bio investigates how markets can be opened for bio-based products through standardization, labelling and procurement. Part of the Open-Bio project deals with the question of whether the EU Ecolabel can be extended to explicitly cover bio-based products, and if yes, how. The objective was to assess the suitability of ecolabel criteria for bio-based products or, in other words, to find out whether the existing criteria of ecolabels can be applied to bio-based products, whether there are conflicts of harmonization and whether additional criteria can or should to be added in order to adequately label bio-based products.

Objective of the workshop: Validation of interim results and recommendations with industry stakeholders.

Who should participate: Industry stakeholders of product groups considered in the project

Product groups in focal point of the analysis:

  • Plant-oil based paints and varnishes
  • Rinse-off cosmetics with bio-based ingredients
  • Absorbent hygiene products
  • Detergents
  • Mulching films & other plastic agricultural equipment (plant clips etc.)
  • Disposables for food
  • Wood-plastic composites (WPC)
  • Cellulosic fibres
  • Bio-based solvents

This workshop is part of the Open-Bio project, funded by the European Commission's 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (www.open-bio.eu).

Participation is free of charge and is limited to 40 participants! Please register soon on this website.
